I’ve noticed alot of MMORPG’s have starte going free on part of their products. Several have offered downloads of the client for free and play for free.

I had to check one out called Anarchy Online. It wasn’t too bad.

The download was quite large but it installed quite easily once it finished. The registration process wasn’t too bad either. Didn’t even have to provide a credit card if I remember correctly. I think it was the base game that they started with before they expanded it but it was pretty fun. Not too much unlike alot of the single player games I have played. Just quite a few more people. Mostly kids from what I could see.

This might be a new trend. I have heard of several games such as Anarchy Online doing something similiar. They give you the game for free and charge you for upgrades to your character instead of your account. Not sure how many are doing this yet but it seems pretty effective. I know it works fairly well for other games such as text based games.

It is one of the best ways Muds make money. Doesn’t suprise me that MMORPG’s are finally starting to see the light of extras and upgrades to player characters.
