Chronicles of Narnia
Just have to do another movie review. This one is on the Chronicles of Narnia.
It has been a very long time since I have read the books. I have been trying to get my kids interested in them for a bit now. Went and bought the first one, Prince Caspian, a few months ago hoping that my daughter would like it enough to read the rest of them. For some reason she just wasn’t all that interested. At least not as interested as I was.
I do have to admit, the books are a bit old and possibly boring for them now. But when I was growing up they were great. Not much like them.
What I didn’t know was what the books were really about. I thought it was just an adventure type story. But the series is not just an adventure. It is a different version of the bible basicly. Something that is written in terms so that kids can relate to it and want to read them. They are supposed to help kids understand the ideas, concepts and stories found in the bible.
Ok, sorry for the diversion on that but I wanted to get that over with just in case you really didn’t realize what you were getting into to begin with.
The movie is based on the book “The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe”. This is not the first book but it probably is the most exciting about the entire series and explains quite a bit about the world of Narnia. You don’t really get a feel for how Narnia came about and how the Professor fit in unless you read the books prior to this one.
The movie itself is pretty true to the book. Obviously some small digressions from the book take place but the story stays pretty much on course the entire movie. The graphics are great. Some of the best I have seen. They keep getting better and better. More realistic every time.
I can’t say I was disappointed in the movie much. There could have been a bit more action with the girls I suppose. But they really weren’t near the battle in the book either. The battle itself was pretty good. I think the movie industry has learned alot about battles from “The Lord of the Rings” movies and books.
We went to a full price movie about 7pm. The theatre was packed and probably sold out again. The Rave here has it showing on 4 screens and each one was sold out during some time of the day. So response to the movie seems rather good. I do think that the movie was worth the effort of going. Not sure it was worth the full price for all of us. But if I were going by myself I think I wouldn’t have minded the full price as much. Not sure the kids really cared for it as much as I did.
All in all, I would rate the movie as a Full Price movie. It would be worth your time to see any time of the day.
