I used to run a BBS quite some time ago. I honestly can’t tell you what name it was called cause I have forgotten. I loved it. It kept me very occupied when things weren’t going so well in the personal home life. Of course it didn’t make that home life a whole lot better but it was a way I could escape. There were several things about this BBS that I really enjoyed. One of them was a game called Legend of the Red Dragon.

Legend of the Red Dragon is a nice little RP(role playing) game which was completely shareware. It didn’t take me long to figure out I really enjoyed this game. It was highly addictive and had great graphics for a BBS. It used RipTerm graphics and was one of the leading DOOR games for BBS’s.

I haven’t had my BBS running for years now. I reminese with my friends who remember BBS’s about some of the things we used to do on them and games we played. There were two games that seemed to be in common. This was definately one of them.

About a year ago I found a game called Legend of the Green Dragon. Its based off of the old DOOR game Legend of the Red Dragon(LotRD). It is written all in php and is web based. It is quite similiar to LotRD and has many of the same features. I tried to install it and integrate it with one of my websites. It didn’t quite work out the way I wanted it to so I put the project on hold.

Last month, I revisited the Legend of the Green Dragon game. Found out it is in heavy development and improving almost daily. I decided to go ahead and install the newest version and just not integrate it with my main site. There have been several added enhancements.

Now, What exactly is Legend of the Green Dragon?

Legend of the green dragon is a turn based RP game. The main object is to slay the dragon. Once you have slain the dragon you are the newest hero of the realm and you get to start over(you die in the process). You don’t lose everything when you start over. Some things you keep.

You can choose a number of races. Some of which are only available after a certain amount of participation. You can choose a specialty(mystic powers, dark arts, thievery skills) and advance in level to the point where you can slay the dragon. Marriage to other players is possible on some servers. You can always try your hand at hunting down other players for bounties or just for fun. Some servers have the player vs. player disabled. You can form clans and invite your friends to be part of a specific group. There are many places to explore and Quests are being developed.

With the amount of development being done on Legend of the Green Dragon, there is quite a diversification of games to choose from.
