Close Encounter of the Bird Kind

I haven’t posted anything in a bit. Been really busy. I’ll post about what I am working on in a later post.

Wanted to share with you an encounter I had with a bird that scared the snot out of me.

One of the places I have the pleasure to work at is fairly remote in this area. I get to see quite a bit of wildlife on the drive and sometimes while working. This is one of the reasons I love this new job.

On thursday we were getting ready to go home so it was time to put things away and close up the buildings. One of the cabinets was open in our big building that is usually open to the elements. I went to close it.

Just as I turned around the side of the cabinet to the front and grabbed the doors. A large bird flew out from the top shelf. It grazed me in the head on the way by.

I went and took a look at it to see what it was. It was a owl. One of those ground owls.

Took my camera into work with me on friday since I was fairly certain it would still be there and I would be working in the same location again. Snapped this picture of it. Warning - The picture is quite large. I didn’t crop it or resize it. The bird itself isn’t that big. I just happened to get really close to it.

The only thing I could really think of though was “I would hate to be that things dinner.”
