Web Based RPG’s

Been looking into web based RP games to add to my site. One I already talked about is Legend of the Green Dragon. That’s a turn based game. Quite fun. You should try it. Another is similiar to what is called a MUD.

What is a MUD?

Well a MUD is simply a Multi-User Dimension(or Dungeon). They are usually text based and accessed through telnet. I’ll go more into these at a later date.

What is the difference between a MUD, MMORPG and a browser based game? Well quite a bit actually. MUDs are generally text based. There are a couple exceptions but they are all accessed through telnet. A MMORPG(Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) is generally graphic based and almost always is subscription based. Some popular ones are The Sims Online, EverQuest and World of Warcraft. You usually have to purchase the software for MMORPG’s. Browser based games are just that. You use the browser you like to explore the game world online. No extra software is required. Most are like MUDs and are free to play.

Ok. So what exactly is the point here?

I have found a browser based game that is currently in development stages. It’s not quite ready to play but its getting there. I will probably focus more of my attention on it once it becomes playable and I have the Legend of the Green Dragon to the point I want it. Still need to add a few things to spur some revenue to help pay for the added bandwidth.

Anyway, the new game will be simlilar to a MUD. Its look and feel may be closer to Dungeons & Dragons than any other game I’ve seen so far. This would be a pretty cool thing I think.
