Movie Review - Pirates of the Caribbean ( Dead Man’s Chest)

Really wanted to go see this when it came out. Unfortunately, we were on vacation at the time and not around a movie theatre(more on that later this week).

It was one of the first things we did when I had time.  Took the kids out and hit the theatre right after work on monday.  Even at 4pm on a monday afternoon the theatre was packed to almost sold out.  I was actually suprised at this.  Though after thinking about it for a bit it seemed to fit since it hit record box office reciepts.

I have to admit. I had no idea what to expect when I went to watch it.

The movie starts out kind of slow then builds.  There are several roller coaster rides as far as action goes.  This makes it kind of even longer with the actual length of the movie itself(almost 3 hours).

The special effects were spectacular.  I can honestly say it was some of the best I have seen to date.  It is quite amazing at what they can achieve now.

The movie starts out with Elizabeth Swan in a wedding dress and progresses to the point where she is acting more a pirate than even Jack Sparrow.  Poor Will Turner doesn’t exactly know what to do.  Especially after he encounters his father he though long lost.

Of course the movie it self revolves around the search for the Dead Man’s chest that was hidden by Davy Jones.  With a comedy of mishaps and adventure the action takes on a roller coaster ride that leaves you quite wanting.  There are short quick sequences of action followed by long periods of dialog that develops a particular scene.  It can be quite tiring to watch for some of the younger audiences.

Overall, I really enjoyed the movie.  I won’t go into detail since I like to let you see the movie for yourself.  But I will say that I was disappointed by the ending.  I can honestly say that there were several suprises along the way that I wouldn’t have though would happen.  So it will be interesting to see how they play out in the next installment of the movie.

The ending itself was extremely slow.  It left you hanging.  There should have been one of those tacky “To be continued…” signs at the end like you might see on Television.  But there was an interesting twist that does get you wondering how they will do the next one.

As for rating the movie, I will rate it a full price movie.  I would see this one again if I call up friends and they haven’t already seen it.  I will definately be purchasing it when it comes out on Dvd.  I hope you go see it and enjoy it as well.
