Family Adventures

Not sure how many of you knew, but we recently went on vacation to southeast Missouri.

I had planned on several different activities for us to do but we completely ran out of time and I didn’t even get to visit with some of the users from here who lived in the area.

Why did we go to Missouri?  Mostly because of Family.  We have relatives who live in the area and we visit them as often as is possible.  It is a rather long drive and with gas on the rise it is more difficult for me to do much long distance traveling.

I’ll put up a gallery of pictures I took while there.  It will be password protected but if you ask me, I’ll give you the password so you can view them.

We arrived on Friday evening of Jun 30th.  Not much to do but drive that day.  Took about 12 hours.

I do have a story to relate with that though.

I followed my parents up on friday.  Stopping several times on the way for the normal travel things.  Gas, food, rest areas ect.

Our last stop was at Taco Bell in Cape Girardeau.  My parents were anxious to get to our destination since they had three cats and my grandmother riding with them.  Cats and my dad are not a good combination.  They just bought dinner and continued on.  The kids and I stuck around and ate at our leisure since I knew where we were going.

One thing we hadn’t counted on was a detour.

We had just left Taco Bell when my mom called me on my cell phone.  She informed me of the detour and told me what route they were taking.  Thought it would be a good idea if I went that way because they weren’t sure how well I knew the area.  Found out I knew it better than they did since I got back on track and they took the long way around.

Anyway, I encountered the detour and look their advice.  Found out later I didn’t need to.  We went the wrong way.  During my trip down the “detour” my mom called and left 2 messages.  Of course I didn’t know about this since there isn’t any cell phone service in the areas I was traveling.

We make it back to the highway and just before town I get my cell service back so I can check my messages.  My mom informs me that I shouldn’t take the detour(too late) and if I got lost to give them a call(wouldn’t have worked since my cell didn’t work in those areas).  So I gave her a call to reassure her I was alright and not far away.

The conversation went basicly something like this.

Mom:  Did you see the detour ok?

Me:  Well, no. I missed it completely and blew right through the detour sign.

Mom:  You did?  How did you make it past the detour sign?

Me:  Well I was going so fast I didn’t really have time to stop and turn.  Missed it compltely.  I got down to the bottom of the hill and the bridge was out.  Fortunately there was a large pile of sand because I would never have been able to stop quick enough.  I hit that pile of sand and jumped the river.  Just followed the highway after that.

There was a really long pause at this point.

Mom: You’re kidding?

Mom was entirely serious.  I couldn’t help but laugh.

So we started off the vacation in the famous Kennedy style.
