Missouri Fishing

We did manage to get some fishing in.  Though it wasn’t quite like what we had planned on.  But it was enough.

Took a walk down the Castor River and did a little fishing off the banks with my dad and kids.  Had a great time.  My son was the only one who didn’t actually catch anything.  He still doesn’t quite get it yet.  Of course I ended up with the largest fish once again.

The day started out early and cool.  No clouds and the temperature was just right.  I got a hit almost immediately the first couple throws.  Then found a deep pool under some trees to actually get the first real catch.  Not much after that though.  Lots of smaller ones.  But nothing to even rival the smallmouth bass I caught.  I did get another hook up but after jumping out of the water several times the fish threw the bait at me and I had to duck to keep from getting hit.
Finished a bit early due to the lack of bites.  I think I actually ended up with more chigger bites than anything else.  But it was great to wade the river with my dad and kids.  I’m sure that they won’t remember it much but maybe one day they will.  Those will be times they treasure with their grandpa.

Went to Clearwater damn the next day.  It was a complete wash.  No bites what so ever.  Plenty of fish but none that would bite anything we had.  I did see one really long gar but I don’t think he was much interested.  Most of the fish I saw were probably carp.  Dad said he got a good hit and it looked like he had it on the line but it got off before he could land it.  I technically landed two but actually only put my hands on one.  It was the only one for the day.

I ended up taking my son the next day.  It was just him and I on a different part of the Castor River.  Was fairly fun and he actually caught one that wasn’t handed to him.  He did it all himself.  It was pretty exciting for him.  He even found out what crawdads were and how to catch them.  Wasn’t too sucessful because they scared him when he actually grabbed ahold of them but it was fun to watch him try.

If you would like to see pictures of our fishing trip, let me know and I’ll give you the link.
