Movie Review - Zoom
If you have kids, this is a great movie to go watch. Tim Allen does a great job once again.
Though if you are an adult going by yourself then you may want to consider skipping this one. It doesn’t have alot of adult type action or comedy. The movie is obviously geared towards a young audience.
With that being said.
Tim Allen plays Jack Shepard/Captain Zoom. He is a washed up super hero who lost his powers. He seems to be having some personal issues and you dont’ really find out what they are until nearly the end of the movie.
Dr. Grant(Chevy Chase) and Marsha Holloway(Courtney Cox) are the team of scientists who are supposed to bring Jack Shepard back to train a new team to combat a “threat” that isn’t really all that well explained.
A small team of kids with special powers is chosen to confront the “threat”. This is done in a rather funny and disgusting kid manner. If you think blowing bubbles of snot is funny, you will like the auditions. It sort of reminds you of some of the American Idol auditions except for kids with super powers.
This small group has various powers and can do various things. I think probably the most endearing and funniest of the bunch is the character of Cindy Collins/Princess. It is rather funny how often she changes costume. The name is rather fitting for her as well. Princess definately describes this little girl to a “T”. Poor old Jack just doesn’t know what to do with her and she plays him quite well. We have all had those sad puppy dog eyes looking up at us when they want something. You will definately get to see the cute and funny side of that look with this movie.
There is really only one confusing part of the movie. Jack takes the kids to a secret place through an electrical box. There you see the names of his old team. The kids finally get thier names here. An event causes Jack to return to the main area where he is captured(because they were really trying to run away) and locked in solitary confinement.
As he left he told the kids to stay there. Now how they were captured and returned to the main area is not clear at all. It is as if the entire scene was deleted. Very poor editing if that were the case. The movie could have used that. It wasn’t overly long and adding that would have made the movie better.
The movie is full of Tim Allen impersonations and juvenille humor. This is a good movie to take kids too. Wish I had seen it in a matinee instead of full feature. But we decided to see this instead of Talledega Nights since we couldn’t find 3 seats together and the movie sold out while we were looking for even one seat. Gave up and watched Zoom instead.
If you are going to watch this movie with your kids. Go to the matiness. Else, wait for it to come out on video and watch it then.
I am going to give this a rating of movie rental. It was humorous but it wasn’t really good enough to watch at full price. Your kids might enjoy it though.
